TAILORED HEROES - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GETTING STARTED

How do I commission a custom miniature?

Start by filling out our commission request form or sending us an email with details about your character. We'll schedule a free consultation to discuss your vision, answer questions, and determine which tier best fits your needs. Once we're aligned, you'll receive a commission agreement and invoice for your deposit. As soon as payment is received, your project begins!

What information do you need about my character?

The more details, the better! Share your character's race, class, appearance, personality, equipment, pose ideas, and any backstory that influences their look. Reference images, character art, or even Pinterest boards are incredibly helpful. Don't worry if you don't have everything figured out - we'll ask the right questions during our consultation to capture your vision.

I don't have reference images. Can you still create my

miniature?

Absolutely! Many customers come with just a written description or a rough idea. That's exactly what the concept art phase is for - we'll work together to visualize your character and refine it until it's perfect. Verbal descriptions work great when combined with our collaborative process.

Do you work with homebrew characters or only official

D&D classes?

We love homebrew! Whether your character is a classic fighter or a completely custom creation from your DM's unique world, we can bring them to life. Unique and creative characters are what make this work exciting.

PRICING & PACKAGES

How much does a custom miniature cost?

We offer three tiers:

  • Adventurer: $199.99 CAD - Standard pose, table top + paint,

  • Hero: $299.99 CAD - Dynamic pose, advanced painting, dynamic base,

  • Legend: $500+ CAD - Complex models, highest quality painting, display base, includes STL files

Pricing varies based on complexity, scale, and special requirements. We'll recommend the best tier during your consultation.

What's included in each tier?

Adventurer includes custom concept art (3 revisions), 3D modeling, standard pose, high-res printing, professional tabletop painting, and simple painted base.

Hero includes detailed concept art (5 revisions), extra character artwork, custom dynamic pose, advanced painting techniques, dynamic base design, and priority turnaround.

Legend includes comprehensive concept art (unlimited revisions), scene artwork, complex/large models, highest quality painting, display-grade diorama base, all project STL files, and frequent progress updates.

Are there any additional costs?

Shipping is additional and billed at actual cost (typically $10-25 CAD within Canada, $15-40 internationally). Rush fees are available if you need faster turnaround (+$50-100 depending on tier). Insurance is optional but recommended for high-value pieces.

Do you offer discounts for multiple miniatures?

Yes! If you're commissioning multiple characters (like a full adventuring party), contact us for bulk pricing. We can often offer 10-15% discounts on orders of 3+ miniatures.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept e-transfer (preferred for Canadian customers), PayPal, and credit/debit cards via Stripe. Payment is split into two parts: 50% deposit to begin work, and 50% final payment before printing starts.

THE CREATION PROCESS

How long does the process take?

  • Adventurer Tier: 3-4 weeks from deposit

  • Hero Tier: 2-3 weeks from deposit

  • Legend Tier: 2-4 weeks depending on complexity

These are estimates and can vary based on revision rounds and current project queue. Rush options are available for faster turnaround.

What if I need my miniature by a specific date?

Let us know your deadline during the consultation! We offer rush service for an additional fee (subject to availability). For events, campaigns, or gifts, we recommend ordering at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure plenty of time.

Can I see progress updates during the process?

Yes! You'll receive updates at each major milestone:

  • Concept art (with revision rounds)

  • 3D model renders

  • Painting progress photos (3-4 for Hero, frequent for Legend)

  • Final photos before shipping

You're always welcome to request additional updates via email.

What happens if I don't like the concept art?

That's exactly what the revision rounds are for! We'll refine the design based on your feedback until you're completely satisfied. Adventurer tier includes 3 revision rounds, Hero includes 5, and Legend includes unlimited revisions. We don't move forward until you approve.

Can I make changes after approving the concept art?

Minor adjustments to the 3D model are included (pose tweaks, proportion fixes). Major design changes would require returning to the concept phase, which may incur additional fees. This is why we take time perfecting the concept art before modeling.

What if I change my mind about colors during

painting?

Minor color adjustments are possible during early painting stages (base coat/initial layers). Once painting is more than 50% complete, changes may incur additional fees ($25-50). We follow your approved concept art colors to avoid this situation.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

What scale are the miniatures?

Standard miniatures are 28-32mm scale (heroic scale, compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, etc.). Legend tier can accommodate larger scales - let us know your preference during consultation.

What material are they printed in?

We use high-resolution resin printing for exceptional detail and crisp features. The resin is durable, paintable, and produces results that rival hand-sculpted miniatures.

Are the miniatures fragile?

They're durable for normal tabletop use but should be handled with reasonable care. Thin parts (swords, staffs, extended fingers) can break if dropped on hard surfaces. We pack them very carefully for shipping to prevent damage.

Can I get just the 3D file (STL) without the physical

miniature?

The Legend tier includes all project STL files. For lower tiers, we don't sell files separately as our pricing reflects the complete service. The digital files remain our intellectual property for Adventurer and Hero tiers.

What if I want multiple copies of the same miniature?

The pricing covers one physical miniature. Additional copies can be negotiated. Legend tier customers receive STL files and can print their own copies for personal use.

Can you scale the miniature differently (larger/

smaller)?

Yes! Let us know your desired scale during consultation. Larger models (54mm+) typically fall into Legend tier pricing. Smaller scales (15mm, 20mm) can sometimes be accommodated - contact us to discuss.

PAINTING & QUALITY

What painting quality can I expect?

  • Adventurer: Professional tabletop quality - clean basecoats, shading, and highlighting. Your mini will look great on the table.

  • Hero: Advanced techniques including edge highlighting, layering, blending, Display-worthy quality.

  • Legend: Competition quality with advanced techniques throughout, special effects (OSL, freehand details), and exhibition-level finish.

Can I request specific paint colors or techniques?

Absolutely! We follow your approved concept art for colors, and you're welcome to request specific techniques (weathering, battle damage, magical glowing effects, etc.). This is discussed during the concept phase.

Do you use washes, dry brushing, or other specific techniques?

We use whatever techniques best serve the miniature - washes for depth, layering for smooth transitions, edge highlighting for definition, dry brushing for texture, etc. Your tier determines how extensively we apply advanced techniques.

Are the miniatures varnished/sealed?

Yes! All painted miniatures receive a protective matte varnish coating to seal the paint and provide durability for gaming use. Gloss varnish can be applied to specific areas (gemstones, wet effects) if desired.

REVISIONS & APPROVALS

How many revisions do I get?

  • Adventurer: 3 revision rounds (concept art only)

  • Hero: 5 revision rounds (concept art only)

  • Legend: Unlimited revisions (concept art only)

Revisions apply to the concept art phase. The 3D model allows minor adjustments, and painting follows your approved concept.

What counts as one revision round?

One revision round = your complete set of feedback on the current design. You can request multiple changes in a single round (adjust armor, change weapon, modify pose, etc.). We implement all your feedback and return the updated concept as one revision.

How quickly do you respond to revision requests?

We typically turn around revisions within 24-48 hours. Your feedback is important, and we want to keep the project moving smoothly.

What if I run out of revisions and still want changes?

For Adventurer/Hero tiers, additional revision rounds can be purchased for $25-50 each depending on extent of changes. Legend tier includes unlimited revisions, so this isn't a concern.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

Where do you ship?

We ship across Canada and internationally. Shipping costs vary by destination and are charged at actual cost.

How is the miniature packaged?

Each miniature is carefully wrapped in protective foam, secured in a sturdy box with additional cushioning, and shipped in an outer shipping box. We take extra care with delicate elements like extended weapons or thin details.

Do you offer tracking?

The method of shipping is up to the customer tracking is requested.

Should I add insurance?

We strongly recommend insurance for miniatures valued over $200. While we package extremely carefully, shipping carriers can be rough. Insurance protects your investment in case of damage or loss during transit.

What if my miniature arrives damaged?

Contact us within 48 hours with photos of the damage and packaging. We'll assess and determine the best solution - either repair instructions for minor damage, or repair/replacement for major damage. This is why we recommend insurance.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! International shipping typically takes 1-3 weeks depending on destination. Customer is responsible for any customs fees, duties, or import taxes.

Can I pick up my miniature in person?

If you're local to southern Ontario, we can arrange local pickup to save on shipping costs. Contact us to coordinate.

POLICIES & LEGAL

What's your refund policy?

The deposit is non-refundable as significant work has been completed. Full refunds are issued if we cannot complete your project for any reason.

Who owns the miniature and the design?

You own the physical miniature upon full payment and delivery. We retain copyright to the concept art and 3D models. Legend tier customers receive STL files for personal use only (no commercial redistribution). We reserve the right to use photos for portfolio/marketing unless you opt out.

Can I sell or reproduce my miniature?

You can sell the physical miniature you receive. Legend tier customers can print additional copies for personal use but cannot sell prints or redistribute STL files. This protects our intellectual property while giving you personal ownership.

What if you can't complete my project?

In the unlikely event we cannot complete your commission, you receive a full refund of all payments plus all work completed to date (concept art, 3D files, etc.). Your satisfaction and fair treatment are priorities.

Do you require a signed contract?

Yes, we use a commission agreement that outlines project scope, payment terms, timeline, and both parties' responsibilities. This protects both you and us, ensuring clear expectations and smooth collaboration.

SPECIAL REQUESTS

Can you create NPCs, monsters, or villains (not player

characters)?

Absolutely! While we specialize in player characters, we're happy to create NPCs, monsters, BBEGs (Big Bad Evil Guys), or any other miniature you need. Complexity determines pricing tier.

Can you create a diorama or scene with multiple

characters?

Yes! Multi-character dioramas fall into Legend tier pricing. Contact us with your vision - party fighting a dragon, epic final battle scene, tavern gathering, etc. - and we'll provide a custom quote.

Can you match an existing art style or artist?

We can work to match a particular aesthetic or style! If you have existing character art you love, share it during consultation and we'll do our best to capture that vibe while translating it to miniature form.

Can you create miniatures for other games

(Warhammer, Pathfinder, etc.)?

Definitely! While we focus on D&D, we create miniatures for any tabletop RPG or wargame. Pathfinder, Warhammer, Necromunda, Star Wars RPG - if you can describe it, we can create it.

Can you recreate a character from a show/book/movie?

For personal use, yes! We can create miniatures inspired by existing characters. However, these are for personal tabletop use only and cannot be sold or redistributed due to intellectual property laws.

Do you do terrain or just miniatures?

Currently we specialize in character miniatures. For terrain needs, we can recommend other creators or discuss custom options for Legend tier clients.
